The Carlyle Sherstad 5K/10K is named after a great promoter of running in Grantsburg. Carlyle Sherstad was the founder and organizer of the 16.2 mile Grantsburg race called the Syttende Mai. That race was an annual event for many years, drew hundreds of runners from all over the Midwest, and is a significant part of Grantsburg's history.
Trophies were awarded to the overall top male and female winners in both the 5K and 10K events. In the 5K race, Jacob Ohnstad, Cushing, WI, was the top male finisher with a time of 17:42 and Carrie Myers, Siren, WI, was the top female finisher with a time of 24:35. In the 10K race, Greg Atkinson, Frederic, WI, was the top male finisher with a time of 38:20 and Kristina Bothfeld, Siren, WI, was the top female finisher with a time of 47:41. In addition to these awards, medals were awarded to the first 3 male and female finishers in each of 9 categories: Pre-teen, 13-16 yrs, 17-19 yrs, 20's, 30's, 40's, 50's, 60's, and 70+ yrs.
In addition to the 5K/10K run/walk, we held the 8th annual Kiddie Carlyle. This 100-yard dash is for children ages 7 and younger. Every child who crossed the finish line received a medal.
